São Miguel Paulista Refinery

The refurbishment and construction project to restart the São Miguel Paulista nickel cobalt refinery is underway; once back in operation, it will be the only Class 1 refinery in Latin America.

We are expecting to produce 12,000 metric tons of refined nickel metal and 2,000 metric tons of cobalt metal each year which will be sold to domestic and overseas markets.

Located in the São Miguel Paulista neighbourhood of São Paulo, the project will deliver significant local and regional economic and social benefits to the São Miguel Paulista and surrounding areas.

São Miguel Paulista has a proud operating history, dating back over 35 years when operations at the refinery commenced. Jervois is excited to bring the refinery back into operation and provide local jobs and employment.

Project Update

Work has commenced on the refurbishment and restart project, which we anticipate will continue across 2026 and 2027. The number of employees and contractors at site has grown significantly over recent months in line with the increased level of construction and refurbishment work.

European Union Critical Raw Materials Act Strategic Project Status

We are proud that the restart of the Sao Miguel Paulista nickel cobalt refinery has been selected as a Strategic Project by the European Commission under the Critical Raw Materials Act.
